Eating together

What a week it had been, all they had hoped for, longed for, and looked forward to was gone. As they walked they talked. Walking away from the city, away from all the memories and the pain. Walking home.

They heard someone coming up behind them, he didn't pass by but walked alongside them. He asked them what they were talking about. He listened. He began to talk about the week that had just been, he began to explain some parts of their holy book. They began to feel different, the darkness and emptiness in their hearts seemed to change. Their hearts were warmed.

It was nearly dark, they were at the door of their home. The stranger seemed to want to keep on walking. They didn't want him to go. They asked him to join them for their evening meal. In the warmth and welcome of that home they sat down to eat. They asked their companion to say the blessing. He picked up the bread. He lifted it high to bless it, as it broke, and they heard his voice they realised it was Him, it was Jesus!

There wasn't time to tell this story at "Gear Up" today in Airdrie, but so much of what this story holds were evident all through this youth ministry conference. The need for us to walk alongside young people, joining them in conversation, sharing and experiencing God's words together. The need for us to sit down together and eat, and the incredible hope and prayer that as we eat, share, chat and explore together we, the young and older, may "see" Jesus as He really is.

Thanks to everyone who made "Gear Up" what it was. We need each other, as we walk with the young people that God has put in our care...
